PART VI · ENTRY 118

You Missed the Connection

Three causes, and they are told apart by exactly where it went wrong.
Symptom — The gate closed before you reached it.
Most likely — The layover was under 45 minutes.
Second most likely — The first flight left late.
Quick test — Check the arrival time against the second boarding time.

Cause 1 — The layover was too short. The most common cause on a connecting ticket. Airlines will rebook you free when they sold the tight connection. Go straight to the desk at your gate, not the main counter. See Entry 121.

Prevention: never book under 60 minutes domestic, 90 international.

A Diagnosis entry: you missed the connection, and the three causes it can only be.

Wow. Just wow. I was missing the arrive-early step and that made all the difference on my last trip.

I started using your method a few years ago and it works well for me and my husband. The key in my mind is arriving calm. Well done video.

What you get

Everything you get for $37

One payment, and all of it downloads at once. Beside each part is what that part costs when you buy it the usual way, from a class or off a shelf.

✓
The full book, as a PDF.

Every part, every chart and every checklist, searchable on a phone and printable at home. A print travel book goes for about $30 in paperback on a bookshop shelf, and it is a third of this size.

$30
380 pages
✓
The same book as an EPUB.

The text reflows for a phone or an e-reader, so it stays readable one-handed at the gate. No extra charge and no second download to hunt for.

EPUB
included
✓
The Airport Atlas and the Methods.

What every sign, desk and line is called, what it should cost, and the moves that suit it. A guided senior travel workshop runs $129 a seat and covers one airport in an afternoon.

$129
48 topics, 21 methods
✓
The Trip Files and Diagnosis.

Complete trips with timing tables, and fixes filed by what you saw go wrong, not by cause. A half-day travel-readiness class runs $77 a seat and teaches you one trip.

$77
28 trips, 18 fixes
✓
The reference pages at the back.

The Master Timing Chart, cards built to print and keep in a wallet, a glossary and a full index. The Travel Cheat Sheets sell on their own for $10 at this checkout, and these pages cover more ground.

Nobody has to drive to a class, and nothing here expires. $37 once, about what one airport lunch and a coffee cost, and there is nothing else to pay after it.

How it works

From paying to packing

1

You pay

$37, once, through Stripe, the same checkout the big stores use. I never see your card number.

2

The book opens

On the very next screen, about thirty seconds later. Phone, tablet or computer, PDF and EPUB both.

3

It stays in your email

The same link goes to your inbox, so you can open it again before any trip. Nothing ships, and there is no account to make.

Read it
before you
fly

Built for the day before a trip

Open it the night before, run the checklist the morning of, and carry the field cards through the doors. Everything is written to be used standing in a line, not studied at a desk.

Questions

Questions, answered honestly

Is this a printed book you mail me? +
No, nothing ships. It is a 380-page file in two formats: PDF for the charts and for printing, EPUB for a phone or e-reader. Both open about thirty seconds after you pay, and the same link goes to your email so you can never lose it.
Is the print big enough to read easily? +
Yes. The PDF is set in large, high-contrast type, and the EPUB lets you make the text as large as you like on a phone or tablet. The charts and field cards were laid out to be read at arm's length, not squinted at.
Is this a subscription? Will you charge my card again? +
No. It is $37, one payment, and there is no account to make. Stripe offers one optional extra at checkout, the $10 Travel Cheat Sheets, and it is unticked unless you tick it.
I'm not very good with technology. Can I still use it? +
Yes. After you pay, the book opens on the screen and a link arrives in your email — those are the only two steps. There is a plain-language page at the front on how to open the file on a phone, a tablet or a computer, and you can print any part at home or at a library.
Does it cover traveling with medications and mobility aids? +
Yes. There are full entries on carrying medications through security, liquids and gels for medical needs, pacemakers and metal joints at the scanner, and requesting a wheelchair or extra time. Where the book and current TSA guidance differ, it tells you to follow the TSA.

Who wrote it

A note from Susan Parker

Every step in this book got checked before it got printed. The timings, the rules, the fees and the procedures come from the sources listed in the References, TSA and airline policy among them, and where travelers genuinely disagree, the book says so instead of picking a side quietly. I wrote it for the people who watch the channel: folks who want to reach the gate calm and on time without paying for a hand-holding service. It replaces the 30-page guide sold here before. If you bought that one, email me and this one is yours at no charge.

Plain travel sense for people who refuse to feel rushed and rattled at the airport. The YouTube channel this book was written from.
